Today the Edmonton Oil Kings are taking on the Swift Current Broncos in this years edition of Hockey Hooky. What is hockey hooky? It’s a matinee game during the middle of the school week and many schools from across the Edmonton area converge on Rogers Place to take in the action of a WHL game. There will be thousands of screaming kids bursting with excitement about skipping school to watch hockey. A fun event for all involved… Except maybe the teachers who are frantically trying not to lose any of their kids during the course of the game.
The Oil Kings come into this morning’s game on a 3 game win streak, which has kept them 2 points up on the Lethbridge Hurricanes who are trying to track down the Oil Kings with their own 3 game win streak. The Swift Current Broncos are currently dead last in the entire WHL. This should be a game the Oil Kings win and keep the pressure on the Hurricanes to keep winning. Although the Broncos are last doesn’t mean the Oil Kings can take them lightly, when you start taking teams lightly is when you start losing. The Oil Kings need to stay on the winning track.
Players To Watch
Vladimir Alistrov – Recently re-united with fellow Belarusian Pavlenko, they have been money the last few games. Alistrov is draft eligible this year.
Andrei Pavlenko – Echoing those last sentiments, Pavlenko has been very good since recently being re-united with Alistrov
Dylan Myskiw – He has been phenomenal his last few games, expect him to start and play very well today.
Ethan Regnier – Broncos leading scoring. However he only has 28 points on the season, which would put him 8th on the Oil Kings.
Connor Horning – Tied for the team lead in points. 17 year old defensemen, Draft eligible this year as well
Goalie – No matter who suits up for the Broncos, all their goalies have above .900sv%. Despite the teams poor record, goaltending is not their issue.
The Bronco’s lack scoring in a big way, their highest scoring player isn’t even scoring 0.5 points/game. With Myskiw playing as well as he has lately, one or two goals may be all the Oil Kings need to skate away with the victory.
