Oilers Vs Blue Jackets Review

“People B**** and complain about what we don’t have, but what we do have is a team” – Coach Ken Hitchcock.

A team is exactly what the Oilers looked like today. They shutdown Columbus all game long, a Columbus team that loaded up at the deadline to push for a deep playoff run. They acquired Duchene, Dzingel, McQuaid, and held on to Panarin and Bobrovsky as internal rentals. Even with that lineup the Oilers manhandled the Blue Jackets and put a big blow in there playoff push. Columbus needed these points as the currently hold down the 2nd wildcard spot. With there loss tonight Pittsburgh draws into a tie for the second wildcard. Columbus needed this game and the Oilers took it from them.

The Oilers won this game as a team, while still being led by the players you would expect. McDavid came out flying and dominated, this is the McDavid we know and love. He had 3 assists and was a work horse all afternoon. Draisaitl was also a horse tonight, he had 1 goal and 2 assists. He extended his point streak to 10 games with 15 points and hit the 40 goal mark. Koskinen was rock solid in net, turning aside all 30 shots fired his way. That was the winning formula in 2017 when the Oilers made the playoffs, great goaltending (from Talbot) and McDavid and Draisaitl torching the league.

This turned into a solid team game as Currie, Kassian, and Chiasson all scored. Depth scoring is slowly appearing for the Oilers and it is a very welcome site. Like Hitchcock said the Oilers have a team. They seem to be finding some chemistry and are playing some real good hockey right now.

The Oilers are 4-1-2 in there last 7 games. They had a bad 5 game skid before that where they were playing well but the results weren’t there. Now they have points in 6 of 7 and McDavid missed 3 of those games. I’m not saying the Oilers will be able to teamwork there way to the playoffs but it’ll more interesting than we think.

Oilers 3 Stars

⭐ McDavid – was a horse tonight, had 3 apples and looked hungry for more.

⭐⭐ Draisaitl – 1 goal and 2 assists. He’s so hot right now, scored his 40th. Let’s hope he keeps rolling!

⭐⭐⭐ Koskinen stopped all 30 and has looked rock solid outside the Leafs game since Talbot’s been traded
