The Eddies kicked off their inaugural match in the Canadian Premier League against Valour FC at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg.

The start of the match was fairly chaotic, maybe to be expected since the Eddies had never played a match together yet that counted for anything. after about the first 10 minutes or so the game seemed to settle in, with the Eddies going to work defending. Valour had a majority of the possession in the first half and had quite a few dangerous looks. If not for Keeper Connor James heroic effort in the first half the Eddies easily could’ve been down a goal or two by the time the whistle blew for the half.

In a turn of events the Eddies put on some late pressure in the first half and in the 45+1 minute Edwini-Bonsu from outside the box close to the goal line put in a beautifully placed ball and after a small scramble in front Temguia placed the ball in the back of the net right before the first half came to a close.

In the second half the Eddies looked a little more dangerous but were very content to play a strong defensive game to close out Valour on the road. The Eddies managed to keep Valour to the Outside closing down any sort of opportunities in the middle of the pitch.

Off of a nicely placed corner the 6 ft. 4in. Didic used his height to his advantage to get his head on the ball which bounced over to Diouck who was parked on guarded on the far post who headed in the ball to give the Eddies a 2-0 lead in the 75th minute.

The Eddies then for a moment appeared to go up 3-0 in the 77th minute but the play was quickly called back for offside.

The Eddies looked to have completely shut out the Valour squad until the had a slight break in the defense which drew a penalty kick for Valour in the 86th minute, which Petrasso made no mistake of to cut the Eddies lead in half. The Eddies continued to defend well and managed the clock excellently as the held on to secure the 2-1 result and 3 points in the league Table, as well as valuable points in their quest to qualify for the CONCACAF League.

The FC Edmonton Man of the Match is Connor James. Without his brilliant Goalkeeping in the early parts of this game the Eddies would’ve fallen behind very quickly, he kept them in it the whole game. Save for not stopping the penalty kick, James played a brilliant game.

The Eddies next match is their home opener on May 12th at 1:30pm MST, at Clarke Stadium. Make sure you go out and grab your tickets, it’s a game you won’t want to miss against Pacific FC as the Eddies look to remain perfect so far this season!
